Keeping Plants Safe in this Heat!

Due to the extended forecast of hot, hot, and more hot, I am temporarily pausing shipping! All plants listed on my website will be available again in September when it is safe to ship. If you are local, the plants are all available right now at the stand, I just cannot ship!

The stand is still open everyday 9-6 as usual.

Top Tips for Plant Care in the Heat

Plants face different threats during extended periods of heat

  • Water at night or early in the morning: Watering during the heat of the day can scald the plants as the sun hits the water

  • Avoid fertilizing or spraying for pests: Even organic solutions right now can hurt your plants in the heat. If you must, apply in the evening so it has time to dry before the hot sun hits it.

  • Avoid heavy pruning: Scorched leaves can still provide a bit of protection during this heatwave.

Prepare Your Plants Before

Preparation is a good idea to prepare the garden ahead of time:

  • Water deeply and slowly. Really make sure that water is where it needs to be on the roots.

  • Mulch! Mulch acts like insulation for plants. It keeps moisture in, cools the soil and protects from weeds, all while slowly breaking down and adding nutrition to the soil.

  • Water consistently: Plants do better when they have dependable watering.

Check back soon! We'll be opening up the online store again in September!
